What’s happening in the world of sports?
Very little to none at all, but that’s not stopping Prince George athletes from demonstrating what it means to distance yourself from others, socially and physically, in flattening the curve on COVID-19.
With seasons being postponed or cancelled altogether, several sports teams around the world have put together ‘team-practice’ videos for social media, but with an obvious twist.
The Northern Capitals, Prince George’s female midget AAA hockey team, cashed in on the opportunity to participate after their season was cut short earlier this month.
The ladies decided to show good distancing skills by passing a puck from teammate to teammate via the internet, starting with 2019-20 season-scoring winner Brette Kerley.
Paige Outhouse, the Caps’ only graduating player this year, appears at the end and gets a puck to the head, likely her team’s going-away gift to the University of Prince Edward Island.
The Caps finished third in the regular-season despite a final push for home-ice advantage in the last 10 games.
Meanwhile, baseball season is also on hold as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but Canada’s national women’s team held an online practice this weekend as well.
This included 14-year veteran and Prince George product Amanda Asay, who completes the squad’s double-play at first base in the middle of the video below.
In August 2019, Canada qualified for the 2020 Women’s Baseball World Cup in Mexico, still scheduled for September this year, after Asay pitched a 11-1 bronze medal-clinching game at the Pan-Am Championships.
