The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity, and Recreation Council (ISPARC) of B.C. is in the midst of putting together softball teams to send to the 2020 North American Indigenous Games.

A joint committee with Softball B.C. is hosting four camps across the province this summer in hopes of finding athletes who can compete in Halifax this time next year, and they have chosen Prince George as their third stop.

The try-outs are open to young women and men from the city and across the northern region with two teams for each gender:

  • Under-19s (Born in 2001 or later)
  • Under-16s (Born in 2004 or later)

If the athletes perform well in front of coaches and scouts, they could receive an invitation to the final selection camp in Spring 2020 when the roster will be finalized afterwards.

Prince George recently hosted its 50th Canada Day Fastpitch Tournament, pinning softball teams against the best in Western Canada of all ages, at Spruce City Stadium in Carrie Jane Grey Park.

That’ll also be the site of ISPARC’s camp, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are no pre-qualifications for an athlete in order to participate, but they must be of Indigenous descent (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit).

More information can be found on ISPARC’s website.
