The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is reminding area residents that wildfires are still very much in season.

The continued trend of warm, dry weather means the risk of wildfire remains high to extremely high in parts of the region, the district said in a release, pointing at two active wildfires within its boundaries – the Great Beaver Lake  Fire and the Noonlang Lake (Ocock Lake) Fire, both located in the northwest of Prince George.

The weekend forecast calls for continued warm dry weather, minimal precipitation and in some areas wind  gusts of up to 40-60 kilometres per hour. BC Wildfire indicates growth on both fires can be expected over the next few days, accompanied by smoky skies.

Those planning on camping or hunting in the back country this weekend should exercise extreme caution and keep a close eye on the status of the latest evacuation orders and alerts, the district urged.
