Children staying in the pediatrics unit at Prince George's hospital had a visit from far, far away Friday.
Members of the Star Wars 501st Legion visited the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia to introduce some of the staff and patients to characters from the movie franchise.
The 501st, an organization of fans of the science fiction film and television franchise who wear movie-accurate stormtrooper uniforms, are regular sights at conventions, like this weekend's Northern FanCon in Prince George. They also often use the opportunity to visit children in the health-care system and in other community settings.
Northern FanCon began Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday at the CN Centre.
In addition to costumed fans and the event's vendors and exhibitors, the event also features celebrity guests from the world of science fiction and fantasy television and film.
Saturday's special guests include, on the main stage, a cosplay contest, as well as Q&As with actors Bill Pullman (Independence Day, The Sinner) and Spencer Wilding (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones); the Blackman and Beyond podcast with Mary McDonnell; Andy Poon and Jeremy Simster on Art in Film and TV. Many other events are planned for other stages at the event.
On Sunday, the Kids in the Hall's Dave Foley appears for a Q&A on the main stage, as does Gigi Edgley (Farscape, Rescue: Special Ops). Also appearing will be Lodewiljk Vos speaking on the future of music in film and TV, and other guests on the convention's various stages.
