A special day to show support for Canadian military troops serving at home and overseas has been declared by Prince George city council.

Red Friday on May 28 is the day residents are encouraged to wear red to show support and gather together at noon at the Royal Canadian Legion.

"Show support by wearing something red every Friday," said organizer Ranjit Gill from the Railway and Forestry Museum.

As an additional event, a benefit dinner will be held June 19 at the Civic Centre to raise funds for the Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Memorial Fund. This fund will be used to establish an award for students seeking careers in the Canadian forces.

The dinner at 7 p.m. and a silent auction will be followed by a live auction at 8 p.m. Cost of dinner is $50 or $450 for a table of 10. To donate auction items or purchase dinner tickets call Gill at 250-612-9856.
