A man who was alleged to have rammed three police cars with a stolen truck was sentenced to 30 days in jail this week.

Paul Daniel Shaw, 26, was issued the terms in Prince George provincial court on Thursday for one count of possession of a break-in instrument and two counts of breach of an undertaking or recognizance.

Charges of theft over $5,000, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from a peace officer and dangerous driving were stayed.

When Shaw was arrested for the March 22 incident he was on foot and it was about four hours after the vehicle had been abandoned.

According to RCMP, the episode began when police received a call of a vehicle theft in the 2600 block of Hollandia Drive at about 7:30 a.m.

About two hours later, police got sight of a truck matching the description and began to follow it and then tried to corner the vehicle near the Eastway Esso at Highway 16 and Boeing Road. But the driver responded by ramming three police cruisers and narrowly missed an officer who was on foot.

Police chose not to pursue in hopes the driver would slow down but the truck was driven erratically as it left the scene and calls were received of it narrowly missing a pedestrian near Prince George Secondary School and hitting a meridian on Massey Drive.

The truck was located but was empty. Shaw was found near 17th Avenue and Juniper Street carrying a sawed-off aluminum baseball bat and other items, police said.

On Thursday, Shaw also received 59 days in jail and 18 months probation for theft $5,000 or under and willfully resisting or obstruction a peace officer from an Aug. 22 incident.
