A two-day symposium on caring for older adults in rural and remote Canada is coming to Prince George.

The event is intended for a range of people, including those involved in health care or health research who are interested in learning more about the well-being of older adults, older adults interested in the future of their own care, or a caregiver who’s unsure of what to expect.

All of the above are invited to attend or tune in via the internet.

The topics to be covered include frailty, dementia, healthy ageing, seniors care and outcomes in the province.

“This symposium aims to shine a bright light on how we care for our seniors – especially with a growing population of older adults,” says Dr. Tom Noseworthy, British Columbia Academic Health Science Network’s (BC AHSN) CEO, who is hosting the symposium. “For example, the number of people living with frailty in Canada will double in the next 20 years. We’re starting to collaborate now to ensure that we’re ready to face an ageing population by using research evidence and knowledge to inform complex care and enable change.”

Attendees will include health care decision-makers, physicians, clinicians, caregivers, patient partners and researchers who work together to make informed decisions about care.

Partner organizations include Canadian Frailty Network, Northern Health, First Nations Health Authority, UNBC, Rural Coordination Centre of B.C. and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

There is no charge to attend this event, but there is limited space and attendees must register.

The BC ACHSN is an organization aiming to advance earning health systems and to enable innovations to make the best use of provincial assets, resources and expertise focusing on senior’s health, rural and remote care and emergency services.

The conference takes place on Nov. 7 and 8 at the Prince George Civic Centre and those interested in attending can find out more information and register online.
