It's hard to resist the temptation of peeking at the cell phone when it's chirping about a text or ringing about an incoming call while driving.

To eliminate the risk of answering the phone while on the road, Whitney Anderson of Westside Academy created Tasker, a mobile app that locks down cell phones.

For her efforts at the Canada-Wide Science Fair national championships last weekend in Windsor, Ontario, she won the BlackBerry Smartphone App Development Award, in the intermediate category for Grades 9 and 10.

The winners get cash prizes, BlackBerry smartphones and mentorship with a BlackBerry mobile application developer expert.
