Regional District of Fraser-Fort George directors approved Thursday a 25-per-cent increase to the property tax requisition for the Canoe Valley Recreation Centre.

The hike will raise the requisition for the facility, based in Valemount, to $466,825 from $373,460 and translates into a hike of $7.95 per $100,000 assessed value for homeowners in the area.

For a home valued at $345,140 the bill will stand at $136.91, up from $109.53.

The facility's financial plan calls for a yearly five-per-cent increase for each of the next five years and in a report to directors, staff recommended it take the form of a single 25-per-cent increase.

Valemount director Owen Torgerson suggested the membership fees would be worth reviewing, noting that they work out to 37.5 cents per day.

"I think we can afford a little bit more," he said.

Also on Thursday, directors approved appointment of Denise Clark, Laura Keil, Sean Kelly and Raymond Smith to the centre's community consultation committee. They will replace outgoing committee members Jerry Plummer, Morris Turmel, Peter Marchetti and Shae Carlson.
