A struggle involving store employees and a group of teenagers caught the attention of an off-duty police officer at a local grocery store Tuesday.

It started when Pine Centre Save-On-Foods security officers tried to stop a pair of youths suspected of shoplifting. The officers told police that two other teens then allegedly assaulted them, with one of them throwing items at them as they tried to detain the first two.

“An off-duty police officer who was in the grocery store at the time witnessed the loss prevention officers struggling to take the youth into custody and assisted in arresting one of the youths," states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, the RCMP's media relations officer. "

RCMP arrived and arrested the teens, charging two with theft and one with assault. They were taken to the RCMP detachment and held in custody until their guardians could pick them up.

One youth accused of assaulting a store security officer remains at large.

No injuries were reported.
