The fire at the Tembec Pulp Mill, just outside of Chetwynd, is still blazing.
Late Wednesday afternoon the mill caught fire, followed by several product piles, said Dawson Creek Fire Chief Gordon "Shorty" Smith.
Crews hoped to have the flames extinguished by Friday evening, but a change in wind caused the fire to spread, said Smith.
"We are making more progress today, and we expect we'll be there overnight tonight as well," he added.
Crews have successfully extinguished the fire in the mill, but fires continue to burn in chip and log piles.
Fire crews from Fort St. John and Dawson Creek are under contract to provide services to the mill, meaning Tembec will be picking up the cost of the fire crew.
Both cities have a pumper truck on site, with three men from Dawson Creek and five men from Fort St. John.
"We're really stretching the capacity of our men, but we expect it to be under control soon," said Smith.
Tembec was shut down in February 2009 because of poor market conditions, and the mill was only recommissioned January 1, 2010.
The cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage is still under investigation.
