Though it was a short stint on the northern B.C. stage, Jack Grinhaus has certainly left his mark on Prince George’s arts community.
The 43-year-old is resigning from his position as Artistic Director of Theatre NorthWest (TNW) after five years, and earned several accolades for his work.
This recently included directing Million Dollar Quartet, the most successful show in TNW’s 25-year history, which saw close to 7,000 people pack the house from Nov. 22 to Dec. 20, 2018.
Grinhaus, an actor himself dating back to the early 2000s, was also honoured by the Prince George community as the 2018 Artist of the Year for his performance in Hedda Noir.
“I have had such an amazing time while here,” he explained in a news release. “I watched my son grow up, my partner Lauren thrive in remarkable roles, and the theatre come through a transition.”
Grinhaus added he’s cultivated personal relationships with a lot of local residents, theatregoers or otherwise, but believes it’s time to bring the curtain down.
“I feel so much was achieved during my time here, and it is the right time to hand the reins over to a new voice and energy. I feel a great sense of accomplishment from my work at the theatre. It has been a difficult decision, but I know it is right for me, and my family.”
The Toronto-born talent also developed training initiatives for local and regional schools as far as Fort St. James and built a new partnership with UNBC’s Theatre Appreciation program.
He will finish off the 2018-19 seaosn with TNW, but a search for his replacement has already begun.
