Good news, golfers!
Not only is The Masters on this week, but a pair of Prince George golf courses will officially be opening this weekend to get you in the spirit of the game and the chance to start working on those low scores.
Pine Valley Golf Course is opening their doors for the Spring season tomorrow (April 12), while the Prince George Golf and Curling Club (PGCCC) will let local residents officially tee up 2019 on Saturday (April 13).
Weather conditions have allowed these two facilities to open as soon as they are because they are on a lower elevation compared to others in the northern capital.
“Pine Valley is situated next door to the PGGCC and has similar topography,” said Pine Valley Superintendent and General Manager Keith Good to PrinceGeorgeMatters. “Snow has been gone for over a week now and it is dried up and ready to play. Pine Valley is in mid-season form.”
New to the all-Par Three club this year, golfers can purchase passes for the course online; this also includes signing up for ladies day and registering for junior camps.
Across Ferry Avenue, the PGCCC claims its course is in great condition as all 18 holes have been tended to and removed of all snow ready to open for the season on Saturday.
The club is set to host events this summer that include the Junior Simon Fraser Open (June 15 and 16) and the eighth annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Charity Golf Tournament (July 12 and 13).

Now that we still have your attention, you may also wondering about a few other places and if you’re looking to test your skills at an arguably more difficult course, you’re going to have to wait a few more weeks.
A spokesperson with Aberdeen Glen Golf Course explained to PrinceGeorgeMatters they’re not quite ready to open due to unforeseen weather conditions and some snow that still needs to be melted.
They estimated the earliest opening tee-off would be May 1, possibly a week earlier if Mother Nature cooperates.
However, they added Aberdeen’s driving range will be open tomorrow for golfers wishing to get a few swings in before hitting the course.
Other courses, such as Alder Hills and Little Links of Maggie May, are at a higher elevation, meaning the course will officially open for 2019 once all the snow has melted away.
In the case of Alder Hills’ All-Par Three facility, they said in an email to PrinceGeorgeMatters their first day of business for 2019 could be in the next two weeks.
We also reached out to Aspen Grove off Highway 97 south of Prince George for comment on when they plan on opening, but have yet to respond.
