The organization has been serving young residents of the city for 40 years.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George (BBBSPG) kickstarted in 1979 with providing proactive mentors for boy and girls living in the community.
So, to celebrate all its accomplishments, the not-for-profit organization has launched its Big 40 Project with a goal of fundraising $40,000 to create a legacy fund for its Mentoring Programs.
The public is being asked to help BBBSPG by simply donating $40, in continuation with the 40th birthday theme between now and Aug. 31, 2019 and you will receive a tax-deductible receipt for your contribution.
According to the project’s description on CanadaHelps.org, a website where you can donate directly to the cause, BBBSPG states this money will ‘create more friendships, more confidence, and more smiles for Prince George kids, while building a strong foundation for our agency and our programs.’
BBBSPG also claims, as an adult, children who had a positive consistent mentor are 50 per cent more likely to volunteer, volunteer 30 per cent more time, and 80 per cent more likely to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
In the Fall, once all the funds have been collected over the next four months, the organization intends to create and unveil a 40th Anniversary Legacy Wall with all the donors’ names.
Canadian Tire Prince George started the pot by donating $2,500 and as of 5 p.m. yesterday (April 23), almost $6,500 has been raised (via CanadaHelps.org).
