A Prince George physician has been recognized for her work and dedication to the community in providing professional medical help.

Dr. Catherine Textor receives the title of B.C.’s Family Physician of the Year as nominated by her colleagues with the B.C. College of Family Physicians (BCCFP), part of the upcoming celebration of Family Doctor Day on Sunday (May 19).

The annual award is given out as a way to honour recipients from each of B.C.’s health regions, as well as other peer-nominated awards for family doctors and family medicine residents.

If you do a quick internet search of Dr. Textor, Prince George has given her incredible reviews, including a 90 per cent rating on RateMDs.com.

According to her profile, she specializes in analyzing sinus infections, urinary tract infections, cough, high blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma, thyroid disorders, routine health care, immunizations, and physical exams.

She was also played a role in the new primary care centre going in the Parkwood Mall this summer, as announced by B.C. Premier John Horgan and Health Minister Adrian Dix last month.

“We know that when communities have sufficient numbers of family doctors, they have lower rates of hospitalizations and emergency room visits, higher cancer detection rates and improved management of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease,” said BCCFP President Jeanette Boyd in a release about all the award recipients. “When you are able to develop a trusting relationship with your family doctor, you are able to work together as a team to meet your health care needs in a way that is tailored to you and your family.”

Dr. Textor is also a member of UNBC’s Northern Medical Program.

In 2018, she received the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine Award for Excellence in Community Practice Teaching.

Staying in northern B.C., Dr. Aryn Khan of Vanderhoof was also honoured by the BCCFP for an impressive start to her career in the District, bestowed with the First Five Years of Practice Award.

Further west on Highway 16, Dr. Marlowe Haskins, based in Smithers, won the northern region's My Family Doctor Award as nominated by his patients.
