This is the time of year when you'll start seeing plenty of Christmas-related photos on our weekly Throwback Thursday page.
Today we have a classic Grinch pic - a shot from a musical production that continues to this day and is coming up soon - and a photo from the Civic Light Up in 1996 (black-and-white photos don't do the event justice, of course). Look for colour photos from this year's event on our website.
But The Citizen wasn't focused on just Christmas in those years past. There was a strange bit of news on this week in 1963: A beer truck slid off the road on the Hart Highway and lost its load of kegs, which were ruined by the cold. The story accompanying the photo had the brewmaster taste-testing the iced suds and determining that they weren't fit for consumption.
And we found a couple of kids learning how to babysit at a Red Cross course in 1979. These types of courses are still offered and are an invaluable experience for young people who want to earn some extra money in a safe, responsible way.
You can explore more of Prince George's past online. The Prince George Digitization project has a fully searchable online archive of newspaper pages going back more than a century, with The Citizen as well as other long-gone local papers, like The Star, The Herald and The Tribune. Check it out.
