Timberwolves fundraiser to feature inspirational UNBC alumni

Chantelle and Warren Grafton have pushed the boundaries of what is possible for an individual living with paraplegia.

The ninth annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night on Thursday, Nov. 9 is sure to be an evening that guests won’t soon forget.

UNBC graduates, competitive athletes, and world travellers, Chantelle and Warren Grafton had a created a life full of joy and purpose.

Then, in June 2019, the married couple had their idyllic lives turned upside down.

On a mountain biking trip, Chantelle was in an accident that left her a quadriplegic, unable to feel anything from the neck down.

Faced with circumstances that would have crushed many, the Graftons have pushed the boundaries of what is possible for an individual living with paraplegia.

“This will be a really interesting opportunity to share our story. If anything, this has brought Warren and I closer together than I ever thought possible,” said Chantelle, who will join her husband Warren as the Timberwolves Legacy Night guest speakers.

“Even the community coming together. We have been so supported by everyone. By our friends. It is amazing what people want to do for you, and to see you go out and succeed as much as you can.”

Legacy Night guests can expect an incredible story full of truth, honesty, humour, and inspiration.

The event serves as a major fundraiser for UNBC athletics, with every dollar raised going directly towards scholarships and bursaries for T-wolves student-athletes.

“We are big UNBC people,” said Warren. “A fundraiser for the athletic department is definitely something we want to be involved in. We met at the Northern Sport Centre, and then eventually got hitched, so it’s important to us.”

Last year’s event, headlined by Humboldt Bronco Kaleb Dahlgren, was the first time the fundraiser was held in the evening, and smashed records for money raised for student-athlete scholarships and bursaries.

For the ninth consecutive year, Canadian Tire will be the Timberwolves Legacy Night presenting sponsor.

Previous Legacy Breakfast keynote speakers include Hayley Wickenheiser, Pinball Clemons, Theo Fleury, Michael Landsberg, Jennifer Jones, Kady Dandeneau, Jon Cooper, and Kaleb Dahlgren.

Tickets will be made available September 1st on the website.
