The new Kelly Road Secondary School currently under construction, could be renamed Shas ti, depending on the school board's decision on April 28.

School board trustees will get a first look at the results from the public consultation on whether to give Kelly Road Secondary School a new name.

An executive summary will be presented during an online forum set for Wed., April 22, 6 p.m. start. It will be broadcast through the school district's website, www.sd57.bc.ca, via livestream and is open to the public.

From March 20 to April 17, the school district canvassed public opinion via a questionnaire on a proposal to name the new school Shas ti at the suggestion of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation. Shas ti means grizzly path in the Dakelh language.

In information gathered from the consultation will also be posted on the website.

"We appreciate that this is a highly anticipated stage in the engagement process," school board chair Tim Bennett said. "It is for board trustees, as well. We have seen and received so

much direct feedback, from public protest to heartfelt emails, and we are eager to see some of

the trends and themes in the data from this questionnaire."

Trustees are to make a final decision on the issue at their Tues., April 28 meeting.
