Two dogs are dead and residents suffered minor injuries after an early morning house fire in Prince George.

Kevin Woodhouse, Assistant Chief with the Prince George Fire Rescue Service, says three fire halls were dispatched to a fire this morning (Feb. 4) at 5:15 a.m. on 207 Gorden Cres.

The initial responders found the fire was in the basement of the house and were able to make a quick entry.

The fire was contained to the basement with heat and smoke damage all throughout the home.

Those home are the time of the fire were able to escape with some smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital with minor injuries; however, firefighters attempted to resuscitate the two family dogs but were unsuccessful.

"The quick responses of the firefighters kept the fire damage to this home confined to the initial room of origin," Woodhouse says in a release.

"Prince George Fire Rescue cannot emphasis to the public enough the importance of having working smoke detectors and alarm systems."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
