UNBC students raised $19,052.49 during their 2010 Shinerama Campaign for Cystic Fibrosis. Students were located throughout the community shining shoes, washing cars and collecting bottles to help raise money.

"We are so proud of the Prince George community for helping us reach our goal," said UNBC Northern Undergraduate Student Society VP and Shinerama co-chair, Morgan Melnyk.

"Without the amazing support of the community, we would not have been able to reach and surpass our record-breaking goal."

A record turnout of about 350 students donated time, energy and effort on Shine Day to help raise money for this great cause, said Melnyk.

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary school fundraiser, involving student volunteers from more than 65 universities and colleges. The campaign, which began in 1964, has raised almost $18 million to help fund CF research and treatment programs.

Cystic fibrosis, which affects the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting young Canadians. When Shinerama began just over four decades ago, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend kindergarten. Today, half of all Canadians with CF can expect to live to age 37, and beyond.
