The lady Timberwolves decided to leave it to the last minute to ensure they would continue their season past Sunday (Oct. 21).
Hosting the UBCO Heat at Masich Place Stadium, both teams were aware that a victory (for either side) and a Thompson Rivers University loss or draw, would put them into the Canada West playoffs.
Both teams found out that the WolfPack ended up with a draw against the MacEwan Griffins, which meant nothing more than a win would do.
Timberwolves' keeper Brooke Molby was looking to backstop her club to the playoffs, after helping keep the team's playoff hopes alive against Thompson Rivers on Oct. 19 with a 2-0 shutout.
She was once again tested in the first half with chances from Jillian Hunt and Jessica Ambrosio but Molby was equal to the task, keeping the match deadlocked at zeros.
In the last 10 minutes of the half, Sofia Jones had three chances to beat Heat keeper Emma Terrillon, but she was able to stop all three shots in the final two minutes and both teams went into the break without a goal.
But Jones made no mistake five minutes into the second half.
UNBC's Paige Payne was able to steal a pass in the Heat's third and quickly send it to Jones at the top of the box, who quickly put it over Terrillon which was her fourth of the season and it proved to be valuable.
UBCO knew how urgent a goal was needed for them. They looked to equalize with chances while UNBC held their ground but they couldn't convert and the Timberwolves escaped with the 1-0 win and now advance to the playoffs for the second straight year.

“Paige did an amazing job on defence and got me the ball right in front of their goal,” Jones said in a press release. “The goalkeeper was off her line, so I tried to chip it, and it worked out.”
UNBC finished sixth place in the Pacific Division and ended with a 3-8-3 regular season record (12 points). Their opponent in the playoffs is yet to be announced.
Goalkeeper Brooke Molby was also named one of the Canada West Women's 3 Stars of the Week.
