United Way BC will highlight pressing social issues impacting Prince George at council’s meeting Monday, Oct. 7.
Presenters Kristi Rintoul, director of community impact and investment, regional coordinator Victoria Awodele and Patricia Prince, Indigenous relations lead, will talk to council about key challenges, including increased demand for essential social services, mental health concerns, and a lack of access to basic necessities, compounded by rising inflation. They will emphasize the need for a rapid and coordinated response to these emergencies.
In Prince George, the United Way focuses its efforts on key areas:
- Healthy aging: Programs designed to help seniors maintain their independence and engagement.
- Children and youth support: Initiatives to bolster support for local youth.
- Food security: Efforts to enhance health and wellness through improved access to food.
- Emergency response: Providing assistance during times of crisis.
- Indigenous priorities: Honou ring Indigenous values and supporting self-determination.
- Transit assistance program: Facilitating access to transportation for those in need.
