If you were hoping to get tickets to the Prince George Cougars game on Family Day (Feb. 17), you're out of luck.
The Prince George Cougars announced today (Jan. 8), in wanting the community to embrace the Monday, Feb. 17 statutory holiday, CN Rail is celebrating its 100th birthday by purchasing all 5,405 seats in the CN Centre so the public could attend the matinee contest completely free of charge.
TicketsNorth confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters this afternoon there were only 50 tickets left, but are all 'on hold.'
In a timeline, the Cougars announcement began at 10:30 a.m. this morning, the media left the CN Centre at around 11 a.m. and then TicketsNorth spoke with PrinceGeorgeMatters at 2:30 p.m. to confirm the information.
“To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a WHL game that was free for the public," said Cougars' Vice-President of Business Andy Beesley in an earlier release.
"The Cougars are looking forward to a full building where collectively we can celebrate together and enjoy a great hockey game as well.”
The 2 p.m. puck-drop on Feb. 17 against the Red Deer Rebels will mark the first time since Mar. 18, 2017 that the Cats will host a sold-out game when they claimed the Western Hockey League's (WHL) B.C. Division Banner in a 2-1 shootout loss to Kamloops.
That game only had standing room left, capping at 5,806 people in the rink to witness the historic moment.
"Prince George, you are amazing!" reads a tweet issued by the Cougars organization.
The team also expects some seats to be 'freed up in the coming weeks.'
