Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has accepted a donation of 80 flats of canned water donated by the owners of Three Ranges Brewing Company in Valemount.
The nearly 2,000 cans of water will be stored and used by Lheidli T’enneh members in case of emergencies.
Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan said her council and staff are beginning to assess their readiness to respond to possible environmental disasters like the floods, wildfires or summer heat dome which have all impacted the province over the last year.
“Having an emergency supply for canned water for our emergency operations center makes planning for whatever emergencies occur this year that much easier,” said Logan, adding that the donation was heartwarming.
“We are here to help each other and this is just one small step.”
Three Ranges Brewing owners Michael Lewis and Rundi Anderson also support Team Rubicon, which recruits, trains, equips, organizes and deploys veterans to aid in disaster response operations around the world.
The canned water will be stored at Lheildi T'enneh's Brunswick Street office which is also the site of the nation’s emergency operations centre.
“We are aware that the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has faced challenges in the past with the water supply that serves members who live in the North and Southside subdivisions,” said Lewis and Anderson in a press release.
“We are aware that Lheidli T’enneh has had to evacuate members during emergencies in past years. One of the basics in any emergency is to provide food and water to those impacted. We are pleased to help the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and its emergency response planning for 2022.”
