Minor hockey accomplishments across the province were celebrated in Kamloops last weekend, including two banner years by a pair of Prince George programs.
The Cariboo Cougars and North Central Bobcats were B.C. Hockey’s Major Midget and Bantam Tier One champions respectively for 2018-19, catching the eye of the Vancouver Canucks who presented both clubs with the team’s Silver Skate Awards on June 8.
Each club received a plaque from the Canucks organization, which honours B.C. minor hockey teams or associations that have shown teamwork, perseverance, and hard work throughout the season.
The acknowledgements were presented to Cariboo Cougars General Manager Trevor Sprague and North Central Bobcats Head Coach Mirsad Mujcin.

The Silver Skates were also awarded at a luncheon at Sun Peaks Resort by Prince George native, Prince George Sports Hall of Famer, and former Vancouver Canuck Darcy Rota.
According to Cariboo, it was also 50 years ago when Rota won a B.C. midget hockey championship with Prince George.
The Major Midget Cats defeated the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in straight games to claim their second league title in three years and in their fifth consecutive finals appearance.
On home ice as the hosts, the Bobcats claimed its first ever B.C. Bantam Tier One crown by defeating the Vancouver Storm 6-1 in the gold medal game.
This was the inaugural season for the North Central-zone team through B.C. Hockey’s bantam regional program.
