There is no drive to revitalize the downtown, construct a road on the outskirts, or attract 747s loaded with cargo.
But the Mayor of Vanderhoof is talking about planes, strengthening local industry and employment.
Gerry Thiessen says final word is near on a two-year flight training program that would be based out of Vanderhoof's airport, operated by the College of New Caledonia. The focus would be on training pilots for service in the northern aviation industry, and the timeline calls for the program to begin in May, 2011.
