The Vanderhoof International Airshow Society wants to spread a little hope this summer.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic forced the event to be postponed until 2021, organizers are now planning to bring a small part of the biannual event to people in the districts and villages across the north-central region.
It's working on an alternative event called “The Great Regional Air Hug of 2020,” which consists of an organized multi-aircraft flyover of the entire region.
It will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, with exact times and routes to be announced closer to the event.
Aircraft of varying types and sizes are on the docket, including some airshow performers soaring through the valley overhead, while others are set to adorn the sky with airshow smoke.
The society says the aircraft will route over Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fort Fraser and possibly as far as Burns Lake, which will also include First Nations communities of Nak’azdli, Saik’uz, Nadleh Whut’en, and Stellat’en.
Organizers also plan to stream the event online from the Vanderhoof Airport so followers can meet the pilots, watch arrivals and departures in real time and learn about the aircraft that can be seen overhead.
“We are still here, we are grateful for the support of our communities, partners, sponsors and guests. We are proud to be Northerners, we are resilient, and we will be back, better than ever,” says the society in a Facebook Post.
