Voters flock to advance polls in record numbers

Advance polls are open today and Wednesday for Saturday's provincial election.

British Columbians flocked to the polls last week in advance of this Saturday’s provincial election, resulting in a one-day record for most votes registered.

That one-day province-wide total hit 477,095 on Wednesday, the first of five days to cast ballots in the advance poll.

As of Oct. 7, BC had 3,550,017 registered voters.

In the three Prince George ridings, the three-day total of votes cast reached 11,485, with two more days – today and Wednesday – to participate in the advance poll. There were 93,932 eligible voters in the three local ridings combined.

In Prince George-Mackenzie, 4,053 votes were registered out of a total of 30,782 eligible voters, while Prince George-North Cariboo had 4,127 (33,055) and Prince George-Valemount had 3,305 (30,095).

Conservative Party leader John Rustad’s Nechako Lakes riding recorded 2,274 advance votes (17,963).

Prince George-Valemount voters can cast their ballots today and Wednesday at the Elder Citizens Rec Centre, 1692 10th Ave., or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 3590 Dufferin Ave.

Prince George-Mackenzie has two polling stations in the city, one at AiMHI, 950 Kerry St., the other at Hart Pioneer Centre, 6986 Hart Highway.

Prince George-North Cariboo advance voters can go to the Best Western Plus Hotel, 3387 Highway 16 West.
