If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to cast a flyfishing rod to try to catch a whopper of a fish, you might want to show up at the Spruce City Wildlife Association hatchery at 1384 River Rd. next week.
Members of the Polar Coachman Flyfishers Club will be sharing some of their secrets on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. when they host an open house, and everyone is invited.
The free event will include demonstrations on casting, fly-tying and knot-tying and will showcase some of the gear and equipment that’s available.
You might even convince them to divulge where north central B.C.’s best fishing holes can be found among the region’s abundant lakes and rivers.
“The Spruce City Wildlife Association hopes to have some information there about the hatchery program they’re working on, because it’s at the hatchery,” said Polar Coachman club director Glen Mikkelsen. “So you can learn about some of the work they’ve been doing on salmon recovery programs.”
Danie Erasmus, a regular contributing writer to BC Outdoors magazine, will be at the open house to answer questions and sign copies of his book, Hatches of British Columbia Trout Streams.
Also on hand will be representatives of Anglers Atlas, a made-in-Prince George resource started by Sean Simmons in 1999 which provides 80,000 fishing maps and depth charts all over Canada and the United States.
The event will also include other local community fishing groups and community organizations.
