Warriors edge Spruce Kings in midweek BCHL action

Spruce Kings fall to Warriors on Wednesday night as they open three-game home stand

The Prince George Spruce Kings opened a three-game home stand on Wednesday evening at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena when they took on the visiting West Kelowna Warriors in midweek BCHL action.

The Spruce Kings got on the board first with John Herrington scoring his eighth goal of the year, this one coming on the power play 5:44 into the first frame. Chase Defoe tied it up for the Warriors potting his third of the season at 7:43 in the first. Rowan Miller put Prince George back in the lead scoring his fourth of the season at 15:43 in the first period.

The second period was all West Kelowna as Tyler Cristall scored his fourth goal of the year at 3:41 into the second period while Felix Trudeau also scored his fourth of the year at 8:16 in the period.

There was no scoring in the third period and the visiting Warriors went on to defeat the Spruce Kings by a score of 3-2.

Aaron Trotter got the start in net for the Kings and turned aside 23 of the 26 shots he faced. Johnny Derrick got the nod for the Warriors and he stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the win.

With the loss the Spruce Kings record falls to 7-3-0-0-0 for 14 points and West Kelowna's record now sits at 6-2-0-0 for 12 points on the season.

Next game action for the Spruce Kings will be on Friday, November 6 when they take on the Trail Smoke Eaters in their first of five decade nights where the team will wear special jerseys and will honour their 1970's All Decade team in a ceremony during the first intermission. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
