Prince George RCMP seized weapons during a traffic stop on April 18, 2025.

Prince George RCMP pulled over a vehicle towing trailer with faulty lights on April 18 — and discovered firearms, ammunition, drugs and contraband cigarettes en route to northern BC.

Police say officers with the detachment’s Problem Oriented Policing Team were on patrol along the Hart Highway on the evening of April 18 when they pulled over a pickup truck hauling a trailer that lacked working lights and proper insurance.

During the stop, officers located a weapon inside the vehicle, prompting the arrest of the driver and two passengers.

A subsequent search of the truck and trailer uncovered four firearms, ammunition, other weapons, contraband cigarettes and a small quantity of suspected fentanyl.

All three individuals were released as the investigation continues.

“This is a great example of proactive police work, where something as simple as a traffic stop for non-functioning trailer lights leads to police officers removing guns and drugs from our streets,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Police say the file remains under investigation.
