Prince George's firefighters were busy with two separate structure fires this weekend.
The first house fire was reported on the 3500 block of 5th Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 14 at about 1:30 a.m., with crews from three fire halls finding the basement kitchen aflame.
The building was occupied at the time, but all residents and pets left quickly thanks to the functioning smoke detectors, the city reported.
The fire was in its early stages and was contained to one room, with damage estimated at $100,000.
Temporary lodgings were provided for the residents through Emergency Social Services, co-ordinated by City of Prince George staff.
The second fire was reported a day later on Sunday, Dec.15 at 10:30 p.m. on the 4100 block of Davis Road.
Three crews from different halls responded to the fire. When they arrived they found the single-story home fully ablaze.
Firefighters were forced to fight the fire defensively to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. Again, there were no injuries reported among homeowners or firefighters.
The estimated damage was $300,000.
The cause is currently being investigated.
