Local governments should be considering wildfire risk before approving new developments in areas likely to be exposed to fires, known as interface areas, a new report by the B.C. Forests Practices Board said Wednesday.

Local governments should be considering wildfire risk before approving new developments in areas likely to be exposed to fires, known as interface areas, a new report by the B.C. Forests Practices Board said Wednesday.

The province should also be making fuel management -- used to reduce fire risks in interface areas -- easier for communities, concluded the 31-page report.
