The B.C. Wildfire Service will continue work this spring to reduce the risk of wildfires around Bear Lake.
The project will extend a previously-treated fuel management area to provide a continuous fuel break from Highway 97 right-of-way to the CN Railway right-of-way along the edge of Duck Lake, BCWS said in a press release issued Wednesday.
The work is expected to last two years and burning will be conducted on an intermittent basis that will depend on site accessibility, crew availability, and weather and venting conditions.
"B.C. Wildfire Service personnel will be on site, with firefighting equipment to control and monitor the burn piles. Smoke may be visible from Bear Lake, Highway 97 and Crooked River Provincial Park," BCWS said.
