UPDATED: Crews deal with wildfire northwest of Prince George

The fire was caused by a dry lightning strike Friday

The B.C. Wildfire service is tracking a half-hectare fire along the Salmon River northwest of Prince George.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has gotten a fire near Prince George under control.

It was first reported Friday, July 19. As of Sunday, July 21 the blaze was no longer appearing on the service's fire map.

The half-hectare blaze was located on the south shore of the Salmon River, about 40 kilometres northwest of the city.

"This fire was caused by a dry lightning strike which means it occurred without rain nearby," the service stated. "The cause of a wildfire is determined by professional investigations in accordance with international standards. Wildfire investigations can be complex and may take weeks or even months to complete."
