Wildfires have prompted a last-minute change of venue for the Burns Lake-based Lakes District Kennel Club’s Shows and Trials, running from Friday to Sunday.
On July 10, club president Candice Little announced that the dog show will be happening at the Agriplex in Prince George.
“We will be hosting this show at the Prince George Kennel Club for this year, and we sincerely thank them for their assistance in both securing the venue and offering to assist our club with this last minute move,” Little wrote in a letter to club members and vendors. “As most of our exhibitors and all of our judges travel through Prince George to get to the Lakes District, we hope this will not cause any hardship for you.”
Little said, because of the cost of renting the venue, the club will be losing money from the event, and is asking for donations to help the club cover the unexpected extra expenses. Donations can be made by e-transfer to [email protected], using the password “LDKCsupport”.
A post on the Lakes District Kennel Club’s Facebook page said the Burns Lakes fairgrounds, where the event is normally held, is currently being used as staging area and camp site for firefighters battling wildfires in the area.
“I'd also like to thank everyone who has reached out offering to help our small (but mighty) club in these horrible circumstances,” the post said. “Our prayers are with those members who live in the Burns Lake area and with all the residents who are going to be affected by these fires.”
