Woman attacked while jogging along Foothills

A woman was the victim of an "unprovoked attack," Prince George RCMP said, while she was jogging along Foothills Boulevard late Sunday night.

A woman was the victim of an "unprovoked attack," Prince George RCMP said, while she was jogging along Foothills Boulevard late Sunday night.

A man knocked her to the ground from behind, "struck her a number of times and attempted to sexually assault her," RCMP said.

"A passing vehicle slowed down and honked, causing the attacker to flee on foot. The driver of the vehicle did not stop."

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries but was able to get to safety.

The suspect is described as taller than taller than 170 cm (5'7") with a medium build and wearing a black hoodie.

The incident near Ochakwin Crescent at about 11:30 p.m.

"This incident is deeply concerning," Prince George RCMP Insp. Shaun Wright said. "We are asking the driver of the vehicle that came across this incident to contact us, as well as anyone else with information to also come forward and help us identify the man involved in this disturbing attack."

RCMP also offered the following safety tips:

- Avoid using headphones or anything that can restrict your hearing;

- Change routes and times frequently. Don't be predictable.

- Stay in well-lit areas and near businesses that can offer safety in the event of an incident;

- Whenever possible, do not travel alone. Running partners or groups offer increased safety.
