Crews working the wildfire reduction effort at the Pidherny Recreation Area remain on-site and are cleaning debris and repairing trails following the completion of the first phase, BC Wildfire Service said Tuesday.
"This work will continue as the snow melts. Recreationalists are urged to be extra cautious when using the trails," BCWF said.
The first phase opened the canopy and removed dead timber from the treatment area (map above). The second phase will address the hazards on the forest floor with work scheduled to begin this spring.
This project will make it easier for firefighters to defend the community against future wildfires and creates a critical fuel break around emergency communication infrastructure. The long-term health and resiliency of the forests and recreational use were considered in the planning of this project.
