COVID-19 has thrown a (heart)breaking ball against Prince George youth baseball (PGYBA), striking out its entire 2020 campaign.
The association’s board of directors announced this week its upcoming house and all-star seasons won’t take place based on recommendations and public orders from B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
PGYBA Interim President Carmen Martin says its paramount to keep players, coaches and their families safe.
“With Via Sport and the Provincial Government just releasing their Return to Sport Guidelines - we are hopeful that Baseball BC and BC Minor will soon provide options for a modified program which may allow us to offer an alternative program in the coming weeks/months,” she explains in a statement.
“Again, we do appreciate your patience as we navigate these uncertain times as a community. Please stay safe and healthy, we look forward to the day we can return to the ball fields.”
The Prince George 18UAA Knights completed their three-peat as Baseball BC champions in addition to claiming a third BC Minor Baseball title in four years.
The 15UAA Knights are the reigning BC Minor Baseball champions after winning the provincial tournament on home soil last year.
Martin adds members have two options for refunds on 2020 fees, which includes requesting the money immediately, or deferring it to the 2021 season and PGYBA keeping them on file.
