The YMCA of Northern BC's annual Megathon fundraiser is returning for 2021 with a goal to raise $10,000 to support its Strong Kids Campaign with hopes of working towards $60,000 by the end of August.
This year’s event is going to look a little different than previous years, the non-profit explains, as it will encourage family participation with a combination of virtual sessions and community activities to promote movement and healthy living, all while raising funds for local kids.
Local business owner John A. Brink presented the Prince George-based organization with a cheque for $3,000 last week to kickstart that $10,000 campaign.
“The charitable sector has been hard hit by the pandemic. We continue to provide front line supports to our community, such as essential child care and mental health services, but we need help now more than ever,” says Amanda Alexander, CEO at the YMCA of Northern BC, in a news release.
“We know that not only does our community need our YMCA today, but that we will be vital as we continue to recover together. Our YMCA Megathon event is instrumental in ensuring we have financial resources to serve our community.”
This is the Brink Group’s fourth year as title sponsor of the Megathon.
“I’ve always been impressed with the hard-working YMCA team and various fundraising they do; our goal is to work with the team at the YMCA of Northern BC to continue setting records with Megathon – in both money fundraised and participation,” adds Brink.
“I’d like to encourage the entire community to come out and support this special event, as well as spend some time reflecting on how blessed we are as a city and a region to have an amazing non-profit organization like the YMCA of Northern BC.”
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign allows one in five children and families to receive financial assistance to participate in YMCA camps and programs such as subsidized membership, Camp Kanannaq and Aurora Leadership, as well as Beyond the Bell.
On March 13, participants will earn entries for a grand prize of a Nintendo Switch by completing activities and raising money for YMCA Strong Kids.
