Prince George’s Nove Voce Choir has been accepted to compete and represent Canada at the European Choir Games in Gothenburg Sweden – but they need a little help getting there.

The group is fundraising for $20,000 to cover the cost of taking the choir members over to Europe so they can battle choirs from all over the world and prove their vocal prowess when the competition takes place in August 2019.

The choir also has a chance to capitalize on the generosity of Giving Tuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday and encourages people to give back to a charity or cause of their choice.

An anonymous supporter has come forward who will match all donations up to $5,000.

Choir member Amy Blanding stars in a cooking video entitled “Sweden the Pot” which explains the choir’s predicament, while cooking the Swedish recipe not-so-coincidentally called the Trip to Europe 2019.

“Once fully cooked it will serve 20 and will feed and transport the Nove Voce competition group to the European Choir games,” says Blanding in the video. “I can smell those choir songs already!”

Nove Voce is a  nonprofit women’s choir formed in 2005 and now in its 15th season. The choir has had numerous successes over the years but has not yet competed internationally.

Nove Voce singers are an eclectic group of women ranging in different ages and economic backgrounds, and according to the group’s fundraising video most members cannot afford to finance the trip on their own.

“We need to fundraise in order to make sure that no member is denied the opportunity to go because of lack of funds,” states the choir in the video. “It’s our goal to represent our city and our country to the best of our ability and we need everyone in the team to go.”
