Airport firefighter training will be taking place at the Prince George airport over the next few weeks.
That means, at times, you may be able to see smoke coming from the airport grounds.
Fires are lit and quickly extinguished in a controlled, self-contained environment, and the public is not at risk.
Live fire training is a mandatory component of airport operations training.
Here’s when training will take place:
- Friday, Sept. 13 = 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Monday, Sept. 16 = 7 to 9 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Monday, Sept. 23 = 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Thursday, Sept. 26 = 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Friday, Sept. 27 = 1:30 to 3 p.m.
There will also be road construction at the airport this month.
On Sunday (Sept. 15), Ellis Road, which is the main road to the airport terminal – will be milled in preparation for paving.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane, and drivers can expect a rough surface.
Weather permitting, paving will occur starting Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Service Roads Altimeter Road and Beacon Road, as well as the extension to the airport’s long term parking lot will also be paved as part of the project.
Motorists should drive slowly and watch for signage and workers.
