Zellers is planning to open a pop-up location in Prince George by Aug. 11, according to information released by the company.

A Zellers pop-up store will be coming to Prince George by Aug. 11.

The pop-up store, located inside the Hudson’s Bay store in Parkwood Place, is one of 21 pop-up locations the company is launching this summer.

“Pop-up footprints will vary from store to store, ranging from 1,000 - 2,800 (square feet)… depending on location. The pop-ups serve as strategic market tests to determine future Zellers store locations,” a statement issued by the company on Tuesday said. "Showcasing a curated assortment of quality, value and design-led Zellers merchandise, the pop-ups deliver a delightful bite-sized taste of Zellers. Moreover, the pop-up model provides a unique opportunity for Canadians to actively demonstrate where they would like to see the next Zellers store open.”

The company operates 25 permanent stores located inside Hudson’s Bay locations across Canada, including locations in Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford and Kamloops. Those permanent locations typically offer 8,000 to 10,000 sq. feet of Zellers-branded merchandise.

"Pop-ups are a key ingredient in our expansion strategy, allowing us to explore and test in new markets, gather valuable customer insights, and fine-tune our offering before establishing larger format store locations," Hudson’s Bay president Sophia Hwang-Judiesch said. "Our customers are very much part of our growth process, and together we will shape the future of Zellers, building a shopping experience that truly connects with communities across Canada."

The Hudson’s Bay Company purchased the Zellers chain of department stores in 1978. After reaching a peak of roughly 350 locations in the 1990s, the chain shut down the last of its stand-alone Zellers locations in 2013.
