The B.C. Hockey League, following a vote by the league's board of governors, has suspended the Williams Lake Timberwolves for the 2010-11 season.

The decision was made because the Timberwolves were deemed to be a member "not in good standing." The league announced the move in a Tuesday press release.

"It is always disappointing when a decision of this nature must be made," league commissioner John Grisdale said in the release. "However, our board of governors felt that it was in the best interests of the league that the Williams Lake franchise be suspended at this time."

When contacted by The Citizen on Tuesday afternoon, Grisdale said the problems in Williams Lake were financial in nature.

The folding of the Timberwolves leaves two northern teams in the league for next season -- the Prince George Spruce Kings and Quesnel Millionaires.
