Brandon Markert and Maryeta O'Dine were unbeatable on their boards.
Markert and O'Dine were the top male and female respectively during an RBC Riders Northern Series snowboard race, held Sunday at Tabor Mountain.
Markert, a Smithers resident who was entered in the 13- and 14-year-old class, was the only male rider to break the one minute 10 second barrier. In his first run, he stopped the clock in 1:09.41, and his second run was just an eye-blink slower (1:09.69).
In various age classes, 19 male riders competed in the event.
Prince George's O'Dine, also in the 13- and 14-year-old age category, blazed down the slopes in 1:12.78 in her opening run and clocked in at 1:16.59 in her second. In total, four female riders were on the slopes.
Other category winners were: Male 11-12, Evan Bichon (Mackenzie/Prince George), best time 1:12.68; Male 15-16, Josh Bleakley (Prince George), best time 1:12.69; Female 8-10, Hailey Laing (Mackenzie), best time 2:01.41; Female 15-16, Hillary Hamblin (Prince George), best time 1:21.35.
Other participants were Dawson Ellery, Dawson McKinnon, Griffin Wall, Jaxyn MacPheat, Tor Green, Cameron Andrist, Jared Hancock, Joe Reise, Braeden Lalonde, Jeremy Voldeng, Christopher Grilz, Brett Ludvigson, Austin Stedeford, Zachary Morris, Maverick Mueller, River Reise and Dana Bichon.
This was the second Northern Series race. The first was Feb. 6 at Murray Ridge and the next is Feb. 27 at Powder King. Races are also planned for March 20 (Tabor), March 27 (Troll) and April 3 (Powder King).
