Fighting for his adopted club, Aven Briggs was perfection in motion.
Briggs, a 100 Mile House product who moved here in January for judo and school, went a combined 8-0 at the Prince George Open, held Saturday at the Civic Centre. The 18-year-old Briggs, now with the Prince George Judo Club, was unstoppable in the junior men's U-20 and senior men's blue and black divisions and picked up golden souvenirs in both.
Briggs, a second-year black belt, scored victories against Andrew Iadarola, Elijah Zwiers, Mike Pollon and Hunter Zwiers in the junior group and then prevailed against Iadarola, Dave Patton, Hunter Zwiers and Doug Gould in the senior category. With his power, speed and smarts, Briggs showed why he has already qualified to fight in this year's junior and senior national championships as a member of Team B.C.
"I had some good success with some techniques that I've been attempting to enhance a bit," said Briggs, who has been developing his skills for 12 years. "It's tough guys, so whenever you beat guys like that, you've got to be happy."
