Burkitt rink swept from playdowns

Falon Burkitt reached the playoffs, but could go no further.

Falon Burkitt reached the playoffs, but could go no further.

The skip, leading a foursome from the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, advanced past the round-robin portion of the junior women's curling playdowns in North Vancouver, but there ran into a familiar foe.

Burkitt lost 8-4 to Corryn Brown of Kamloops in Thursday's tie-breaker, with Brown advancing to the semifinal. Earlier in the tournament, Brown posted a 6-3 win over Burkitt.

A steal of three by Brown in the fourth end proved the critical point in the game. Brown closed it out with two more in the ninth, leading to Burkitt's rink offering to shake hands.

Burkitt started her day Thursday by blasting the winless Megan MacKay rink (0-7) of Trail by a score of 12-3, improving to 5-2 and securing a tie-breaker berth.

--- Meanwhile, on the junior men's side, Erik Leisinger's first trip to provincials will go down as a learning experience, but not one that includes anything beyond a moral victory.

Leisinger's 0-7 record was made complete with a 5-3 loss to Kael Kristjanson of Kamloops on Thursday.
