Skis, boots, poles and snowshoes will be hot commodities when people descend on the city's cross-country trail facility Sunday to take advantage of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club's free day on the trails.

The Caledonia club has 100 sets of cross-country skis and those will be available only for two-hour periods, from 9-11 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m.

"We don't have enough to get everybody fitted for the day,so we have to limit it to two hours," said Otway office manager Carolyn Thorp. "If you want dry boots, come before 9."

As part of the Ski Fest festivities, free ski lessons for beginners will be offered at 2 p.m.

Waxing clinics are set for 10:30 a.m. (classic skis) and 10:30 a.m. (skate skis) and there will be a demonstration of snowshoeing tips and tricks from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

From noon-3 p.m. club members will guide skiers on tours of the Pine Flats trail.

There will be food available at the ski hill. Five bucks will get you a pancake breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. For $2.50, skiers can fill up for lunch with a wiener roast and hot chocolate from noon-2 p.m. at the gravel pit.
