The Cowichan Valley Capitals dished out some capital punishment that proved deadly to the Prince George Spruce Kings.

A day after losing to the Spruce Kings in overtime, the Capitals saved their best for last, scoring four goals in the third period to cinch an 8-4 victory in front of 991 spectators Saturday at Kopar Memorial Arena.

Hayden Russell, Gavin Giesbrecht and Brayden Sinclair each fired two goals to hand the Spruce Kings their 12th loss in 18 game this BC Hockey League season.

Kole Keen and Andoni Fimis also scored for the Caps (8-8-1-0), who moved two points ahead of Prince George (6-9-2-1) in the Coastal Conference standings.

Two goals in the second period from Skogen Schrott and a single from team scoring leader Ethan Montroy pulled the Kings out of  3-0 deficit, but before the period ended Giesbrecht restored the lead for Cowichan Valley.

New Jersey native Ryan Wachtel, collected his first BCHL goal late in his 16th game since joining the Spruce Kings.

The Kings head out on the road this weekend to visit Langey and Chilliwack.

They’re back at Kopar the following Saturday (Nov.23) to host the Spruce Grove Saints in their first ever visit to Prince George. The Saints were one of the five Alberta Junior Hockey League teams to join the BCHL this season.
