The Cariboo Cougars U18s dropped their opener Friday at the Circle K Classic tournament in Calgary, falling 8-5 to the Sioux Falls Power. The Cougars take on Detroit Saturday afternoon.

The Sioux Falls Power lived up to their name and the Cariboo Cougars were powerless to stop the onslaught Friday at the Circle K Classic U18 hockey tournament in Calgary.

The Power scored six unanswered goals to defeat the Cougars 8-5 on opening day at the 32-team tournament.

Grady Gustaphson, with his second goal of the game, Rylan Bissett, Jaxon Larmand and Nicholas Gordon staked Cariboo to a 5-2 lead by the 8:25 mark of the second period. But before the intermission the Power tied it up and scored three more in the third period.

The visitors from South Dakota outshot the Cougars 14-0 in the third period and 48-19 through 60 minutes.

Andrik Lygas took the loss in the Cougar nets, stopping 36 of 44 shots.

Formerly known as the Mac's Invitational Tournament, the Cougars will get right back at it again Saturday at 4 p.m. PT when they take on Detroit Victory Honda.

Detroit lost its opener 5-4 to Okotoks Bowmark Oilers.
